Wales suffers one of the highest premature mortality rates for coronary heart disease in the world. There are 8000 sudden cardiac arrests outside hospital in Wales every year. Survival rates are extremely poor – only 3%. But with timely intervention and the added benefit of a defibrillator (AED), we can save the lives of up to 50% or more.
Welsh Hearts, working together with Rhondda GP Dr Bob Baron; Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust PADS team; First Responder paramedics; local councillors; fundraisers; patient representative groups; and members of the Cwm Taf University Health Board, wish to place 100 defibrillators and provide training in Rhondda Cynon Taf for the benefit of both residents and visitors of the area.
In the first year since its establishment, Welsh Hearts placed 130 defibrillators in communities across Wales and trained over 2000 people in CPR and safe use of defibrillators. Ultimately, we’d like to see a defibrillator next to every fire extinguisher in Wales and for every person in Wales to have essential life-saving skills, to form the essential link of survival. Merely calling an ambulance is not enough – these skills can be quickly and easily picked up by everybody.
We require donations of time and money to support our important work. Anything you can give is greatly appreciated and really will help us save lives across Wales! Click here to make a donation to our RCT100 Dai Fib Appeal. Thank you.
