The background behind the whole project is, first of all Gwyn Williams passion for carriage driving coupled with the decision to do something that would connect his passion with the memory of his late wife, June Williams, who sadly died of heart failure on Christmas Day, 2016 and simultaneously collect money for a good cause.
The Tristar Driving Team will be using a coach which they had built in Poland in 2015, which is a replica of the Prince of Wales coach that ran from Carmarthen to Cardiff in the early 1800s and was later renamed the Duke of Wellington after his success at Waterloo.
The event will run over 3 days, the coach leaves the Ivy Bush Royal Hotel, Carmarthen on Friday 29th September, 2017 and arrives at Cardiff Castle on Sunday 1st October, 2017.
There will be 9 stages,
– Three on Friday 29th September
Stage 1: Passengers to be ready by 10:30AM leaving the Ivy Bush Royal Hotel at 11AM. Stopping through Carmarthen onto Kidwelly at 1:15PM.
Stage 2: Passengers to be ready by 1:00PM to leave Kidwelly, Emyr Jones’ Yard at 1:35PM. Then Kidwelly to Pembrey, Bury Port and End at Ysgol y Strade Bus Park at 3:25PM
Stage 3: Passengers to be ready at 3:15PM to leave Ysgol y Strade Bus Park at 3:45PM via Llanelli, end at Mary Dilwyn Fforestfach at 5:45PM
– Three on Saturday 30th September
Stage 4: Passengers to be ready by 10:30AM leaving Mary Dilwyn at 11AM. Though Swansea, Wine Street Etc ending at Beefeater Baglan Roundabout at 1:30PM
Stage 5: Passengers to be ready by 1:30PM to leave Beefeater Baglan Roundabout at 2:00PM. Then through Baglan, Port Talbot ending in Margam Park at 3:20
Stage 6: Passengers to be ready by 4:00PM to leave Margam Park at 4:15PM. Take the A48 via Pile ending at Ty-Wrth-Y-Coed, Merthyr Mawr CF32 0NU at 6:15PM
– Three on Sunday 1st October.
Stage 7: Passengers to be ready by 10:30AM leaving Ty-Wrth-Y-Coed at 11AM. Travel along the A48 into Cowbridge Town off by-pass ending at Town Hall at 1:00PM.
Stage 8: Passengers to be ready by 1:00PM to leave Town Hall at 1:30PM. Travel along the A48 ending at Cottrell Park Golf Club at 3:00PM.
Stage 9: Passengers to be ready by 3:00PM travel along A48 through Culverhouse Cross then Ely Roundabout ending at Cardiff Castle at 4:30PM.
The team will be travelling along the populated routes, targeting towns such as Carmarthen, Kidwell, Llanelli, Swansea, Port Talbot, Bridgend, Cowbridge and then on to Cardiff Castle.
They have appeared on S4C television many times in the past in such programmes as “Goets Far” and “Y Sipswn.” Last year they travelled all over the UK, including Edinburgh, Belfast, Cardiff, London and Liverpool helping the Royal Mail to celebrate 500 years since their formation.
